Length of Service for Olim
In Israel, "Olim" refers to Jewish immigrants. These individuals have specific requirements for mandatory military service, depending on their age and gender.
As of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, the rules are as follows:
Men aged 18 to 26 who make Aliyah are required to serve in the IDF. The length of service is generally 2 years and 8 months.
Women aged 18 to 20 who make Aliyah are required to serve 2 years in the IDF. However, they may be exempted from service if they're married, have children, or declare that they cannot serve for reasons of conscience or religious observance.
Men aged 27 and above and women aged 21 and above are generally exempted from the mandatory military service, although they may choose to serve voluntarily.
These rules are subject to change, so for the most accurate and updated information, please check the IDF or Nefesh B'Nefesh websites. It's also important to know that there are some exceptions to these rules, and certain factors such as prior military service in another country, physical or mental health, and familial status might influence the length and nature of the service.
